This Site was born out of the dreams of Zoilo Blanco — a proud Garifuna — who wanted to give assistance, and support to all his Garifuna Brothers and Sisters around the world.

We, his children, having heard his desires, went to Central America where we found that though The Garinagu owned good property, they lived in abject poverty without industry, and cut off from the rest of the world (mostly by their own doing).

Seeing this, We saw that our father's dream could only be realized if we took on all the problems of the Garifuna in Central America: Little or no education; no political access; little or no industry; poor infrastructure (poorly maintained gravel or cobblestone roads, and no electricity or plumbing in many of the villages); being out of touch with modern society; and the disintegration of families due to the migration of unprepared adolescents to the urban centers are all problems that we know must be solved — QUITE AN UNDERTAKING.

This site is the first part of tackling these challenges. There are over one hundred thousand Garifuna in the US and this is the place where the Garifuna can finally congregate, be heard and form a formidable community.

With all of your support we can impact everyone of these issues and create a better world.

On July 7, representatives of the Garifuna ethnic group protested in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, against a proposed constitutional change that would allow foreigners to buy land on the Atlantic Coast. "The land is our mother, and mother is not for sale," the protesters chanted. Congress suspended debate and agreed to meet with Garifuna representatives to discuss an alternative plan that would protect their rights to the land they have occupied for 200 years.
